Russia is the guarantor of the security of Nagorno-Karabakh. This follows from the tripartite statement of November 9, 2020, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan noted. The republic itself, according to him, cannot fulfill these obligations because of the consequences of the war.
“The tripartite statement stated that the Russian Federation would send troops to Nagorno-Karabakh, it was written that Russia is the guarantor of Nagorno-Karabakh. It’s not that Armenia refuses it, but having lost the war, Armenia can no longer perform this function,” Pashinyan said at a press conference.
He added that a new meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev is not yet planned. For this, guarantees of agreements are needed, Pashinyan explained.
