OSCE Monitoring Mission in Donbass clarifies the course of its work

The OSCE Special Monitoring Mission (SMM) did not suspend its activities in Donbass, but only stopped sending observers from the Park Inn hotel in Donetsk, where the mission’s headquarters is located and where the protests are taking place, the organization’s press service said. She noted that patrolling from other places continues normally.

“As a result of the protest in front of the hotel in Donetsk where the mission participants lived, and in accordance with its security procedures, the SMM is not dispatching patrols in Donetsk. On October 17, the head of the OSCE mission to Ukraine, Yashar Halit Cevik, announced the suspension of the mission’s activities “in accordance with security protocols.” At the same time, on October 19, the OSCE SMM released a report on its activities.

The protests at the hotel where the mission is located are connected with the arrest by the Ukrainian military of the officer of the representative office of the Luhansk People’s Republic (LPR) in the Joint Center for Control and Coordination of the Ceasefire Regime (JCCC) Andrey Kosyak. After the detention, the LPR representation in the JCCC restricted the routes of movement of the OSCE observers.
