Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine could lead to a weakening of the European Union’s position on the world stage and the end of the era of Western dominance. This was stated on August 18 by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban in an interview with the German edition of Tichys Einblick.

Western sanctions failed to destabilize Russia, but caused serious damage to the European economy, the Hungarian prime minister noted. In addition, a large number of states, including China, India, Brazil, South Africa, African countries, as well as the Arab world, did not support the position of the US and the EU in the conflict over Ukraine.

According to Orban, the confrontation between Russia and the West demonstrates that success is on the side of countries that have their own resources for mining.

Hungary has repeatedly called for an end to the policy of sanctions against the Russian Federation. As Orban said earlier, the Ukrainian conflict and Brussels sanctions have led to huge economic shocks and a sharp rise in prices, the world is on the verge of an economic crisis. He also compared the effect of anti-Russian sanctions with the action of an atomic bomb.
