Government insists this step ensures clean governance. Yet opposition leaders fiercely criticize it as an attack on democracy.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi slams the bill, claiming it drags India back to medieval times. “Kings removed anyone they disliked then,” Gandhi says. “Same situation brews now.” He fears Enforcement Directorate could detain opponents for a month to force removal. Gandhi accuses BJP of destroying elected representatives’ dignity to consolidate power. “Constitution sold out,” he adds.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee labels the bill Hitler-style assault on democracy. She warns CBI and ED gain unchecked power, undermining judiciary and eroding constitutional foundations. Banerjee calls it worse than emergency rule.
