On website The Metropolitan Museum of Art, located in New York, changed the caption to the painting by Arkhip Kuindzhi “Red Sunset on the Dnieper”. In the column “nationality” the artist says “Ukrainian”. However, as early as January 6, TASS writes, the web page indicated that Arkhip Kuindzhi was Russian. The description of the painting states that Mr. Kuindzhi was born in the city of Mariupol, “when this Ukrainian city was part of the Russian Empire.”

In addition, the museum’s website changed the name of the painting by Edgar Degas “Russian dancer” to “Dancer in Ukrainian dress”. They also changed the description of the painting, specifying that in 1899 Mr. Degas “created a series of compositions dedicated to dancers in Ukrainian folk costumes.”

In April 2022, the National Gallery in London announced that it had changed the name of Edgar Degas’s pastel “Russian Dancers” to “Ukrainian Dancers”. Representatives of the museum clarified that they made the decision to rename the painting after appeals in social networks.
