“Two important things I look for with new clients suffering from belly fat are cortisol and insulin,” the medic said.

Cortisol is known as the main stress hormone. And if a slight increase is normal, then chronically high levels of cortisol can become a problem and cause extra pounds. In particular, it is the stress hormone that promotes overeating and increases appetite, Campbell concluded.
