Long wait sparked uncertainty about their survival. However, a rescue mission led by Elon Musk’s SpaceX has finally brought hope. The spacecraft, launched from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center last Friday, includes astronauts from the United States, Russia, and Japan: Anne McClain, Nicole Aunapu Mann, Takao Onishi, and Kirill Peskov.

Williams and Wilmore had traveled to the International Space Station aboard Boeing’s Starliner last June. Technical failures prevented their scheduled return, and while hopes rose in February, another attempt failed due to engineering issues.

Situation became politically charged when Donald Trump and Elon Musk accused former President Joe Biden’s administration of delaying the astronauts’ return. Eventually, NASA and Musk’s SpaceX took charge, organizing the Dragon spacecraft mission to bring Williams and Wilmore home.

If all goes as planned, the two astronauts will safely return to Earth this Wednesday, accompanied by NASA’s Nick Hague and Russian cosmonaut Alexander Grebennikov. Families, friends, and colleagues now eagerly await their safe arrival after months of uncertainty.
