The Punjab government has announced the opening of four new medical colleges in the state. These colleges will be opened in Mohali, Hoshiarpur, Kapurthala and Malerkotla. With this, 500 MBBS seats will increase in the state.
Punjab Medical Education and Research Minister OP Soni has announced this. The Minister gave this information during the foundation stone laying of Dr. BR Ambedkar State Institute of Medical Sciences.

At present there are about 1400 MBBS seats in Punjab. 1500 crore has been allocated for new medical colleges. About 80% faculty have been appointed for Dr BR Ambedkar Medical Institute. The process of appointment of paramedical staff and other employees is going on.
