Russian Permanent Representative to the UN Vasily Nebenzya considers the statements of a number of countries that Russia’s chairmanship of the UN Security Council should have been transferred to another country ridiculous. In his opinion, this “contradicts all conceivable and unthinkable rules.” Russia chaired the UN Security Council in April.
“The main thing is that the chairmanship passed without excesses, despite the ridiculous attempts of some countries to accuse us that we can abuse the chairmanship and that our chairmanship needs to be transferred to someone else, because, they say, Russia is not worthy to head the Security Council” – said the permanent representative in an interview with RIA Novosti.
Against the backdrop of the Russian military operation in Ukraine, some European countries called for Russia to be excluded from the UN Security Council. The United States admitted that they do not yet see such an opportunity. The office of the UN Secretary General believes that such calls “do not contribute to peace.”
