NATO will send an additional 700 troops to Kosovo to provide security and prepare another battalion to deploy if necessary. This was stated by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg on Tuesday at a press conference in Oslo, which was broadcast by the NATO press service.
“NATO forces in Kosovo will take all necessary actions to ensure the security of the entire population of the region. NATO will send an additional 700 troops from our operational reserve to Kosovo, and on top of that, will raise the level of readiness of another battalion so that it can be sent there if necessary. We will take all measures to ensure that the NATO forces in Kosovo have all the forces and capabilities to fulfill their mandate,” Stoltenberg said.
Stoltenberg also confirmed reports that 30 NATO troops were injured in Kosovo during clashes with Kosovo Serbs.
“Attacks on NATO military are unacceptable and must stop. NATO will continue to act impartially in accordance with its mandate,” he added.
