NASA has made the decision to bypass Boeing and turn to SpaceX to rescue two astronauts currently stranded on the International Space Station (ISS) due to issues with Boeing’s Starliner capsule. The move called into question Boeing’s reputation as an aerospace manufacturer.
Initially, the Starliner capsule was supposed to transport the astronauts to the ISS and bring them back to Earth.
However, serious technical issues, such as engine failures and a helium leak, took place when the capsule was approaching the station. Due to these issues, the capsule was forced to return to Earth without the crew on board.

As a result, the astronauts have been stuck on the ISS for nearly three months. Given these circumstances, NASA has chosen to collaborate with SpaceX, Boeing’s main competitor, to safely bring the astronauts home.
“We believed that Starliner could bring them home safely, but Nasa didn’t want to chance it,” the Boeing employee explained. “They have their own PR issues and don’t need two dead astronauts.”
