Moroccan fans ‘celebrate’ the team’s playoff run with riots and looting

Hundreds of fans of the Morocco national football team rioted in the Netherlands after the national team’s victory over Canada and reaching the playoffs of the World Cup.

Fans ran through the streets of Amsterdam, The Hague and Rotterdam, launched fireworks at police officers and threw stones. In addition, there are reports of robberies. According to local media, law enforcement officers block the streets and carry out harsh detentions.

Recall that the Moroccan national team defeated the Canadian team with a score of 2: 1 in the match of the third round of the group stage of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, which takes place in Qatar, and made it to the 1/8 finals from the first place in Group F. The national team reached the play- off the World Cup for the first time since 1986, and also became the first African team since 1998 to win a World Cup group.
