Number of fatalities from the hurricane that hit the southeastern part of the United States has increased to 116, reports CBS News. Earlier, reported 111 deaths.
“Hurricane Helen has taken the lives of at least 116 people… and has caused widespread destruction,” the publication states.
The network notes that reports of deaths from the natural disaster have come in from six southern US states.

The highest number of fatalities attributed to the hurricane activity has been recorded in North Carolina, with 46 deaths, followed by South Carolina with 27, Georgia with 25, Florida with 13, Tennessee with 4, and Virginia with 1.
According to a preliminary estimate from AccuWeather’s service, provided by the network, the total damage to the United States from the hurricane could total between $95 billion and $110 billion.
According to the Find Energy monitoring service, nearly 2.08 million electricity consumers are left without power in the hurricane-affected states.
