Ministry of Economic Development: in 2019, Russians spent on trips to the EU an amount almost equal to all the income of Estonia

The analytical department of the Ministry of Economic Development calculated that in the “pre-pandemic” 2019 year, Russians spent $14.6 billion on trips to the EU countries. The ministry clarified that this amount is approximately 10% of the total cost of all tourist trips to the EU and is comparable to budget revenues Cyprus or Estonia.

AT Telegram channel The Ministry of Economic Development also clarifies that the accumulated balance of Russian direct investment in the European economy in 2019 was $346.3 billion.

“What do these numbers say? Spending by Russian citizens on travel alone exceeds the total annual budget revenues of some European countries, such as Cyprus or Estonia, and amounts to 15% of the income of Greece and 10% of Finland, ”the report says.

The publication of reports in the department reacted to the closure of borders by Estonia for Russians with Schengen visas issued by the republic. Earlier, Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas called on EU countries to stop issuing tourist visas to Russians and called travel to Europe a privilege.
