The military intelligence of Ukraine was preparing terrorist attacks in Russia, including using a “dirty bomb”. This was reported by the Center for Public Relations of the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation.

“During the investigation of the sabotage planned in May 2023 to blow up long-range aircraft stationed at the Severny airfield in the Ivanovo region, it became known about the plans of the Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR) of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry to commit a terrorist act in Russia using the so-called dirty bomb,” — indicated in the message.

According to the FSB, the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Kirill Budanov, created the third service of this department to organize sabotage. It included light aircraft to supply sabotage and reconnaissance groups in the Russian Federation with means of destruction, as well as strikes by dropping bombs on fuel and energy infrastructure facilities.

It is indicated that the military unit No. 3449, which is conditionally called “Legion” and is part of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, coordinated the use of light aircraft. Her duties included devising a plan to deliver and plant dirty bombs equipped with delay timers to “simultaneously detonate and render the area unusable for human habitation.” Since the beginning of 2023, this unit has planned and carried out five sorties in the Russian Federation. In the course of them, objects of the fuel and energy complex in the Russian regions bordering Ukraine were damaged. As a result, the FSB detained two pilots, they gave confessions about terrorist acts committed and planned by the department.
