The territory of the Zaporozhye region is divided into 16 administrative units, the city of Melitopol became the official capital of the region. Such a decree was signed by the acting head of the region Yevgeny Balitsky, it was published on the website of the regional administration and came into force on March 3.
At the same time, besides the capital, Berdyansk and Energodar are recognized as cities of regional significance. “To establish that the administrative and political center of the Zaporozhye region is the city of Melitopol,” the text of the document says.
In addition, 13 districts were formed by decree: Akimovsky, Berdyansky, Vasilyevsky, Veselovsky, Kamensko-Dneprovsky, Kuibyshevsky, Melitopolsky, Mikhailovsky, Pologovsky, Priazovsky, Primorsky, Tokmaksky, Chernigov.
Their borders, as well as the borders of Berdyansk and Energodar, are determined within the framework of the administrative zoning of the Ukrainian SSR as of September 16.

At the end of September, Melitopol became the temporary capital of Zaporozhye at that time. Then a member of the main council of the regional administration said that the territory would become a subject within Russia with just such a city as an administrative and political center.
