Russia “will not have any moral right to ignore the decision” that will be made following the results of referendums in the Donbass and the liberated territories. This was announced on September 23 by Chairman of the Federation Council Valentina Matviyenko, the press service of the Chamber of Regions reports.
In the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions, on September 23, referendums began on the accession of these territories to Russia. They will last until September 27th. According to Matviyenko, “everything is ready for the vote at the highest possible level.” In particular, international observers have been invited, including Russian senators.
“I contacted them, and, as my colleagues say, in terms of organization (holding referendums – ed.), objectively, there is simply nothing to complain about. Of course, there are special security requirements. But everything has been done to ensure transparency and openness,” the speaker of the Federation Council emphasized.
Especially, according to her, the senators note the attitude of both ordinary people and members of commissions to get a real result of the expression of will, which will without distortion reflect the opinion of residents on the issue of joining Russia.
“We will have no moral right to ignore the decision of our brothers and sisters. And if they decide to become part of the Russian Federation as a subject, I assure you, we will not hesitate. Both legally and technically, the procedure is extremely clear and we have fully worked out. Everything necessary from our side will follow as soon as possible, ”concluded Valentina Matvienko.
