Football player Mario Fernandez after the end of the 2021/22 season of the Russian Premier League will suspend his career in CSKA. He attributed this to “colossal cumulative fatigue and immense exhaustion.” Fernandez announced his retirement from the Russian national team in September 2021.
“After the match with Rostov, I’m flying to Brazil. My contract will be suspended. At the same time, if after a certain time I realize that I still feel the strength to help PFC CSKA, I will return and continue to play for my home club, ”Fernandez said in a statement on site club. He noted that his decision was not connected with “recent events in the world” and with “a difficult period in the life of the team.” The football player also explained the decision by the fact that his son will be born this year and he wants to stay with his family in Brazil.
CSKA General Director Roman Babaev said that the club managed to “persuade Mario not to rush to the final decision on retirement and agree on the suspension of the contract.” “We hope that after a little rest, Mario will miss football, miss our family and return home,” he added.
Fernandez was born in Brazil but did not play for the national team. In 2016, he received Russian citizenship. The footballer played 33 matches for the Russian national team, scoring five goals. He has been playing for CSKA since 2012, played 328 matches, scoring 10 goals and making 46 assists. As part of the Moscow team, he became the champion of Russia, won the Russian Super Cup twice and won the Russian Cup once.
