Macron to speak at European Political Community summit in Moldova

French President Emmanuel Macron confirmed on Tuesday his participation in the summit of the European Political Community, which will be held on June 1 in Moldova, the corresponding video message was published by the Moldovan media on their pages on social networks.

The Moldovan authorities are preparing for the June 1-2 summit of the European Political Community (EPC), which will be attended by representatives of 60 countries. The event will be held at the initiative of the head of the republic Maia Sandu. The ENP was founded in May last year by French President Emmanuel Macron. The Moldovan authorities announced special security measures during the event, which caused a wave of criticism from opponents of the president and the ruling Action and Solidarity party. The summit will be held on the territory of the Mimi winery in the village of Bulboaca, where the Dacia military base and the military training ground are also located, where the exercises of the national army are held.

“Moldova, see you soon! On June 1, we will be in Chisinau for the second summit of the European Political Community. We will discuss energy, migration, security, infrastructure, defense, geopolitics, because we live on the same continent. I am sure that we need this summit to come together and build a stronger and more united Europe.” Macron said in the video.

The French leader expressed his gratitude to Moldovan President Maia Sandu for organizing a large-scale forum.

The European Political Community is Macron’s initiative and provides a platform for political dialogue and cooperation between EU countries and countries outside the Community space. The first EPC summit took place in the Czech Republic.

The heads of state and government of the European Union at the summit in Brussels on June 23, 2022 approved the granting of the status of candidates for joining the union to Ukraine and Moldova. To start negotiations, countries need to fulfill a number of conditions, including reforms and strengthening the fight against corruption.
