French President Emmanuel Macron may appoint a new prime minister before August 28, according to a report by Journal du Dimanche. The report suggests that Macron might choose a “non-politician” for the role while keeping the current ministers under his leadership as he forms a new government team.
In the recent snap elections to the French parliament, held on July 7, the left-wing coalition “New Popular Front” emerged victorious with 182 seats in the National Assembly, out of 577. Macron’s coalition, “Together for the Republic,” secured 168 seats, while the right-wing “National Rally” and its allies from the Republican Party took 143 seats.
Due to no political group achieving a majority, Macron accepted the resignation of Prime Minister Gabriel Attal. However, the outgoing government is expected to manage “current issues” until the end of the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris. Macron noted that selecting a new prime minister and forming a cabinet would require time.
