The State Duma wants to give everyone the opportunity to use a number of digitized historical documents for free. Their list is contained in the amendments to the draft law “On Archiving”. They were sent for consideration to the chairman of the State Duma Committee on Culture, Elena Yampolskaya.

The author of the amendments, State Duma deputy Yana Lantratova, told Parlamentskaya Gazeta that the amendments relate to documents on the occupation and liberation of territories during the Great Patriotic War, data on participants and workers of the Great Patriotic War, award documents of the war or other military operations to defend the Fatherland, household books of the period 1932-1946, metric books of the 18th-20th centuries, revision tales of the 18th-19th centuries, confessional records of the 18th-20th centuries, census and scribe books of the 18th century and earlier, archival documents of the 17th century and earlier.

Yana Lantratova noted that, first of all, the amendments are aimed at educating young people.

“The priority direction for the implementation of youth policy is the education of citizenship, patriotism, respect for national history, the traditions of the peoples of Russia. Therefore, it is so important that schoolchildren, students, and young researchers be able to study military-patriotic documents that explain external threats and the contribution of individuals to the defense of the country from a historical point of view,” the deputy emphasized. – The education of citizenship is based on the example of the heroes of the past. Many research competitions for schoolchildren and students have been built around the theme of the Great Patriotic War. Documents for these studies should be available.”

It should be reminded that the draft law “On Archival Affairs” was adopted in the first reading in February. He proposes to create a system of remote access to archival documents via the Internet. Thanks to this, people will be able to view and, if necessary, copy the necessary data without leaving their homes.
