Kim Jong Un announces victory over coronavirus in North Korea

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un said that the DPRK defeated COVID-19. No new cases of coronavirus have been reported in North Korea since July 29.

“He solemnly announced victory in the extremely emergency anti-epidemic campaign to destroy the new coronavirus,” Kim Jong-un said at a meeting on anti-epidemic measures, his words are quoted by the Korean Central News Agency (quoted from yonhap).

The North Korean authorities reported the first case of coronavirus at the end of April. The daily COVID-19 incidence peaked on May 15. Then 392 thousand cases were recorded per day. Kim Jong Un said that the coronavirus was the biggest shock since the founding of the DPRK.

On July 29, the DPRK authorities reported that for the first time, not a single new case of the disease had been recorded in the country. On July 2, Pyongyang lifted almost all restrictions imposed earlier due to the spread of the omicron strain.
