Khusnullin promised to reorient the work of the Zaporozhye NPP to Russia


Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Marat Khusnullin said that Zaporozhye NPP will work for Russia. He added that energy from the station can be supplied to Ukraine, but if they pay for it. He also stated that all jobs at nuclear power plants will be saved.

“Energy electricity is a commodity that cannot be stored in a warehouse. Therefore, if the energy system of Ukraine is ready to accept and pay money, then we will work, if we don’t accept, we will work for Russia,” Mr. Khusnullin said during a working trip to Melitopol (quote from “RIA News”). Marat Khusnullin added that Russia would not “worry about where to sell electricity.”

He also stated that the station will continue to operate normally, all jobs will be saved. “We have extensive experience in working with nuclear power plants, our companies in Russia have this experience. There is no doubt that it will work,” he said (quoted from “RIA News”).

Zaporozhye NPP is located in the Ukrainian city of Energodar. On March 9, the Russian military announced that they had full control of the nuclear power plant. Rosatom reported that it advises the staff of the Zaporizhzhya NPP, however, according to the company, the station is serviced by Ukrainian specialists. Rosatom also denied that Russia plans to “take full and permanent control.”
