Nairobi, 30 November. Kenyan President William Ruto list the administration’s monthly salary to the drought relief fund.
The decision was taken unanimously during the third meeting of the Cabinet chaired by the politician. Officials will contribute $185,000 to the charity’s balance sheet.
“We understand the suffering of the citizens of the republic. Therefore, officials have decided to forego salaries in November as a personal and collective contribution to the state campaign,” the government press service said.
In addition, representatives of the National Defense Forces (KDF) held an internal action. The military transferred one day’s monthly salary to a fund to help the families of drought-stricken farmers.
The National Climate Disaster Response Committee has released an account number to which residents can transfer donations. The campaign was supported by telecom operators, youth organizations and local banks.
Earlier, the Parliament of Kenya demanded that the Ministry of Agriculture develop a program to protect cattle. The heat wave has already killed 1.5 million animals.
