Russian sport will inevitably return to the system of international tournaments. This was stated in an interview with “Parliamentskaya Gazeta” by the three-time winner of the Olympic Games in Greco-Roman wrestling competitions, Russian Senator Alexander Karelin.
Answering the question whether Russia, against the backdrop of sanctions and the exclusion of our athletes from major tournaments, needs to initiate the creation of alternative championships, the legendary wrestler called these ideas “unpromising”. “Such decisions would have been acceptable not even before the February events, but several years ago. Now I don’t see the point in them, ”he said.
According to Karelin, Russia will still restore its representation in international institutions. “I am sure that everything will come to this in the end – we will still be returned to the system of international competitions. By the way, I think that at the club level we will quickly restore participation in major tournaments,” he said.
According to the senator, Russian sports are interesting to the world “not only because of the results, not only because they want to compete with us.” “We are also interested in professional communication. We have developed powerful sports and pedagogical methods that are in great demand outside our country,” Alexander Karelin emphasized.
The full text of the interview will be published on the Parlamentskaya Gazeta website later.
