In a press conference held outside his residence, Rideau Cottage late Monday Trudeau confirmed the decision. He mentioned that decision came after extensive discussions with his family acknowledging their role in his successes.
Trudeau has led the Liberal Party since 2013 and became Canada’s Prime Minister in 2015. Over the past nine years he has served as a key political figure. But his popularity has declined recently.
Amid criticism and pressure, including opposition within his own party and challenges like heightened tariffs imposed by U.S. President Donald Trump Trudeau faced increasing calls for resignation. Ultimately he decided to step down putting an end to speculation.
