Russian judoka Inal Tasoev was awarded a well-deserved gold medal three weeks after the World Championship final in the over 100 kg weight category. About it says website of the International Judo Federation.

In the final bout on May 13, Tasoev’s opponent was the Frenchman Teddy Riner. First, the Russian blocked Riner’s blow, and then parried it. But the judges decided to continue the fight without awarding points to Tasoev, although the Frenchman received a point for a similar movement. After the International Judo Federation (IJF) admitted the mistake and apologized to our athlete.

“After a thorough expert analysis, according to the current rules of refereeing, a point could be awarded for a counterattack to Inal Tasoev. Therefore, the International Judo Federation declares both athletes the winners of the competition and awards Tasoev a gold medal and the corresponding rating points,” federation reported.
