U.S. President Joe Biden expressed disappointment with the Georgian government’s “anti-democratic actions” in a letter to Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili.
The criticism is directed at Georgia‘s adoption of a law on foreign agents, which Biden views as aligning with “Kremlin-style” policies and not meeting the standards expected of EU and NATO member states.
In his letter, Biden acknowledged the Georgian people’s Euro-Atlantic aspirations and reaffirmed U.S. commitment to Georgia’s integration into European and NATO institutions despite his concerns over the government’s recent actions.
