Japanese scientists have found that people with strong legs have a lower risk of developing heart failure after a myocardial infarction. This is reported by the publication “Gazeta.ru“.

The study, presented at the European Society of Cardiology Scientific Congress, was conducted on 932 patients hospitalized between 2007 and 2020 with acute myocardial infarction.

The scientists measured maximum quadriceps strength as a measure of leg strength and assessed quadriceps femoris strength relative to body weight. As a result of the study, they found that high levels of leg strength were associated with a 41% lower risk of developing heart failure. In addition, a 5% increase in quadriceps body strength was associated with an 11% reduction in heart failure.
