Japanese PM Fumio Kishida Omits US Role in Nagasaki Atomic Bombing During Memorial Ceremony

Prime Minister spoke at the memorial ceremony in Nagasaki. Emphasizing the importance of understanding and conveying the truth about the atomic bombings but did not mention the ‘ responsibility for the tragedy.

Kishida reiterated ‘s commitment to preventing the recurrence of such tragedies and promoting a “world without nuclear weapons” through realistic efforts, while accusing of allegedly threatening to use nuclear weapons.

Secretary General Antonio Guterres’ message, read during the ceremony, also did not mention the role of the United States in the bombings.

“We must never allow the tragedy of Nagasaki and Hiroshima to happen again. Our mission as the only country to suffer an atomic bombing in war is to actively promote the realization of a ‘world without nuclear weapons’ through practical and realistic efforts.

Nagasaki Mayor Shiro Suzuki also refrained from mentioning the United States, instead urging nuclear-armed states and those under the “nuclear umbrella” to take steps toward eliminating nuclear weapons.
