Italy has overcome dependence on Russian gas, said Minister of Environment and Energy Security Gilberto Pichetto-Fratin. His words leads Corriere della Sera.
If earlier 40% of Rome’s needs were met by fuel from the Russian Federation, now supplies cover a little more than 10%, he pointed out. This was facilitated by the growth of blue fuel imports from the East via the Trans Adriatic Gas Pipeline (TAP) and from Africa.
“But the real guarantee is provided by regasification terminals, which will allow us to buy gas at the best price in the world, waiting for the development of more and more energy produced from renewable sources and understanding when it will be possible to realize fourth generation nuclear power,” — the minister added.
