At Russian airports, they plan to completely eradicate anglicisms – to eliminate signs and sound announcements in English. Rafael Mardanshin, Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Transport and Development of Transport Infrastructure, intends to come up with a corresponding initiative.
As the parliamentarian himself told Parliamentary Newspaper, the excessive use of English words is inappropriate in the context of the current international situation and a significant reduction in the flow of foreign tourists.
“At the same time, the abundance of such signs and announcements on domestic flights, which are used mainly by our compatriots, seems especially incomprehensible,” Rafael Mardanshin stated. – As for those foreign guests who still visit us despite the sanctions – well, let them learn our language. At least to a minimum.”
At the moment, the idea of fighting the Latin alphabet in air harbors exists only as a general concept. The parliamentarian intends to formalize it in the form of a full-fledged bill and submit it for discussion in the autumn session of the State Duma.
