Israeli Prime Minister allowed the appearance of “tens of thousands” of repatriates due to the conflict in Ukraine

Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid said that against the backdrop of recent events around the Russian-Ukrainian military conflict, tens of thousands of new repatriates could arrive in his country. 90 million shekels ($25 million) will be allocated to support them.

“Following recent events in Russia and Ukraine, Finance Minister Avigdor Lieberman and Aliyah and Integration Minister Pnina Tamano-Shata will present today a decision to add NIS 90 million to immigration absorption. We expect tens of thousands of new repatriates in the coming months,” the Israeli prime minister said at the opening of a cabinet meeting (quoted by RIA Novosti).

On September 22, the day after the announcement of a partial mobilization in Russia, Yair Lapid asked the El Al air carrier to increase the number of flights to Russia so that all interested Jews could leave the country. According to the newspaper The Jerusalem Postsince February, 11 thousand people (or 47% of all arrivals in the country) have arrived in Israel under the repatriation program, from Ukraine – 7 thousand (25% of all arrivals).
