The funeral of Ismail Haniyeh, the head of the political bureau of Hamas in Qatar, began today. Haniyah, who was killed in Iran, is being honored in a traditional Muslim ceremony in Qatar’s capital, Doha.
According to a Hamas source, Haniyeh’s body was flown from Iran to Qatar. where he spent most of his later years. He will be buried in a cemetery in the new suburb of Lusail, north of Doha, on Friday, August 2.
The ceremony, which begins with a special prayer for the deceased in a mosque, is being held at the main mosque of Imam Mohammed bin Abdul Wahhab in central Doha, Qatar.
This prayer is held after the traditional Friday prayers. After the service, Hanieh’s body will be taken to Lucille Cemetery.
