The US and Europe have once again imposed sanctions on Iran, citing false allegations that the Islamic Republic supplied ballistic missiles to Russia, according to Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.
The previous day, the US had followed its European allies in imposing sanctions on Iran Air, the country’s airline, for procuring Western parts and interacting with Moscow and Tehran. The restrictions also affected several individuals and legal entities, the US Treasury Department and State Department announced on Tuesday.
The US administration claimed that the sanctions against Iran’s largest airline were introduced due to its “involvement in the supply of Iranian weaponry systems to Russia” and for transporting critically important Western-made parts and equipment from Europe to Iran.

“The US and Europe have once again taken action based on false information and flawed logic. Iran did not send ballistic missiles to Russia. Period,” Araghchi wrote on his social media page.
In his message, Araghchi urged those “drunk on sanctions” to ask themselves how Iran could have created and, as claimed, sold complex weaponry. He emphasized that sanctions are not a solution but rather part of the problem.
On September 6, CNN cited sources as saying that Iran had allegedly transferred short-range ballistic missiles to Russia for use in combat operations in Ukraine.

However, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Nasser Kanaani dismissed the claims made by US media outlets about Tehran supplying weapons to Russia for use in the special operation in Ukraine. Russian Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov stated on Monday that not every piece of information corresponds to reality.
As Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson had previously stated, any attempt to link bilateral cooperation between Moscow and Tehran to the conflict in Ukraine is aimed at justifying continued Western arms supplies to Kyiv.
