Following bilateral talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin at BRICS summit in Kazan, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian expressed hope forswift finalization and signing of a comprehensive strategic partnership agreement between Iran and Russia.
This marks second meeting between two presidents within two weeks, with previous one taking place in Ashgabat on October 11.
“I’m optimistic that we’ll be able to sign this agreement soon,” Pezeshkian said. “I’m committed to pushing this forward myself. I hope we can finalize and sign it at the earliest possible chance, as agreed upon.”
Russia and Iran have already agreed on terms of their comprehensive strategic partnership. Media reports had suggested deal might be signed during Kazan summit, but Putin and Pezeshkian agreed in their Turkmenistan meeting that it would be signed during a separate visit.
BRICS summit in Kazan runs from October 22 to 24.
