Indian Express: Olympic medalist Varganova arrested in Goa on suspicion of drug dealing

Silver medalist of the Moscow Olympics in swimming Svetlana Varganova arrested on charges of selling drugs, informs The Indian Express.

Russian Olympic medalist Svetlana Varganova, who won a silver medal in swimming at the 1980 Games, was among three people arrested as part of an “international drug cartel” in Goa, the Narcotics Control Bureau said Saturday. The intelligence operation lasted two weeks.

The other two include a former Russian police officer identified as Andre and an Indian accomplice, Akash, the anti-drug agency said.
