The number of victims of floods and landslides caused by the most powerful monsoon rains in northeast India has increased to 63 people. This was reported on June 19 by the Press Trust of India news agency.

In the state of Assam, about 4 thousand settlements fell into the flood zone, 156 thousand people were forced to leave their homes and live in temporary shelters created by the state authorities. At least 234 roads and 16 bridges were damaged.
Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi assured the authorities of the states of Assam and Meghalaya that the federal government will provide all necessary assistance to the affected regions.
