Over nine months in Russia, online sales of memory cards for smartphones, drones, and cameras increased by 70%. Retailers reported this. Experts believe that most often the cards are used for drones and body cameras by participants in the conflict in Ukraine and security officials.

“The growth in demand for memory cards is due to an increase in sales of quadcopters with a video camera, which are used during military operations in Ukraine,” the retailer said in an interview with the Kommersant newspaper. According to him, in January-October 2023, 70% more memory cards were sold online than last year.

In May, sales on marketplaces increased 13 times. According to the expert, in monetary terms the market grew by 27%. The top seller was the American Kingstone memory card.

Yandex Market emphasized that sales of memory cards on the marketplace doubled from January to October, and in terms of money increased by 1.7 times. “The demand for cards in the low and medium price segment is growing the most,” noted the site.

General Director of GEO Innoter LLC Natalya Malkova said that memory cards are used in drones, but for these devices they are purchased “not in such large quantities.” According to her data, memory cards are most often purchased in large quantities for body cameras by law enforcement officers, traffic police, the Ministry of Emergency Situations, security specialists and participants in military operations.
