In the capital of Latvia – a rally against the policy pursued by the executive branch

According to the head of the municipal police Juris Lukas, approximately 2,000 people took to the streets in Riga to rally against the government, reporters from the Press LV online publication report today, May 27.

The protesters chose the words “What is happening now in the country can be called the genocide of the people” as the slogan of the day. The protesters called on the prime minister Krisjanis Karins resign. The cry “Kariņš, go away!” became the second slogan of protest.

The Russian theme also found a place in the speakers’ speeches. So, the deputies of the Seimas of Latvia Ainars Shlesers And Alexey Roslikov noted:

“The people of Latvia are one people! There is no unity among those who are in the government.”

On May 31, the deputies of parliament will elect a new president, so there was some campaigning. The organizers urged to vote for the businessman Uldis Pilensif they are waiting for change.

“If Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkevics becomes president, everything will remain as it has been for the past decades,” the appeal says.

According to police, the rally ended peacefully. There were also no arrests.

As previously reported EADaily, in Latvia one protest is replaced by another. The buildings of the Parliament and the Cabinet of Ministers have already been picketed by teachers, doctors, and journalists.
