The State Duma in September may consider a bill that will oblige the Federal Tax Service to inform banks about the death of their clients. Izvestia writes about it.

How says in the article, the government is ready to support the initiative. Its goal is to give banks the ability to quickly block the accounts and deposits of the deceased so that they cannot be used by other persons, including their relatives.

The authors of the document explained: sometimes the bank cards of former clients are unknowingly used by members of their families. And this is actually theft, if the relatives are not yet recognized as heirs.

“This is a draft law of our committee, therefore, of course, we will support it. Its adoption is important for two reasons. Firstly, to prevent situations when relatives use money – bank cards – of those who died unknowingly. They think they have the right, but according to the law, this is actually the theft of funds if they have not entered into inheritance rights “– Anatoly Aksakov, one of the authors of the bill, the head of the State Duma committee on the financial market, explained to the newspaper.
