In Russia recorded the growth of cybercrime

The number of crimes on the Internet in January 2023 reached 32,956, an increase of 21.5 percent compared to the same period last year. This is reported in the report “The State of Crime in Russia”, published on the website of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation.

In total, during the reporting period, according to the agency, 151.1 thousand crimes were registered, which is 1.1 percent more than in the same period last year.

It is noted that at the same time, the increase in the total number of crimes in the field of information and telecommunication technologies and computer information amounted to 14.2 percent (up to 44,164). At the same time, the percentage of detection of such crimes reaches 98.9 percent.

“More than half of such crimes (56.2%) are classified as grave and especially grave (24.8 thousand; + 14.7%), almost three quarters (74.6%) are committed using the Internet” (33 0 thousand; + 21.5%), more than a third (40.6%) – mobile communications (17.9 thousand; + 14.0%), ”the report says.

Earlier it was reported that the number of crimes involving weapons has increased dramatically (by 49 percent) in Russia. It is noted that the largest increase in crimes involving weapons, ammunition and explosives occurred in the regions bordering Ukraine. In the Belgorod region, the indicator increased by 4100 percent, in the Bryansk region – by 1300, and in the Kursk region – by 1233.3 percent.
