In Kyiv, work has been completed to dismantle the Soviet star from the stele in honor of the 60th anniversary of the Victory over Nazi Germany on Galitskaya Square (formerly Victory Square). The star was cut off in parts.
Dismantling began on the morning of November 4 and ended late at night. A photograph of the stele without a star was published by Strana.ua on its Telegram channel.
In Ukraine, since 2015, as part of the decommunization policy, Soviet monuments have been dismantled and topographical objects have been renamed. In the summer of 2023, the Soviet coat of arms was dismantled from the Motherland monument in Kyiv. A trident was installed in its place. Assistant to the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Medinsky called the demolition of monuments and the replacement of coats of arms in Ukraine a disease.
