In Kazakhstan, they are trying to take away illegally acquired land from Nazarbayev’s brother

A court in Kazakhstan ruled to deprive Bolat Nazarbayev, Nursultan Nazarbayev’s younger brother, of the ownership of the Barys car market in the Alma-Ata region. This was announced today, April 18, by Sputnik Kazakhstan news agency.

According to the agency, in the Karasai district court of the Alma-Ata region, the consideration of a civil case on the suit of the district prosecutor against a number of state institutions and the owner of several land plots, which is Bolat Nazarbayev, has been completed. According to the supervisory authority, the land was transferred to the property illegally.

According to the court, the lawsuit filed by the district prosecutor stated that from 2004 to 2019, model contracts for the sale and purchase of land plots related to agricultural land were concluded between state institutions and the defendant. However, they were used for completely different purposes. In this regard, the district prosecutor asked to recognize the transactions as invalid.

The defendant’s representative requested that the claim be dismissed because, in her opinion, it did not indicate the grounds, the essence of the violation or the circumstances of the violation.

Representatives of state institutions left the decision to the discretion of the court.

“It has been established that when issuing land plots related to agricultural land to the defendant, there is no preliminary mandatory approval of the regional territorial body for land management and central authorized bodies to change the designation of the category of land plots, that is, the rules for issuing land plots have been violated”, — noted in the judgment.

In addition, according to the document, when considering a civil case, legal grounds were established for recognizing previously concluded standard sales contracts as invalid.

In the meantime, a number of Kazakh media have reported that they are talking about several land plots that belonged to the brother of the ex-president of Kazakhstan, Bolat Nazarbayev. Their total area exceeds 37 hectares, and in their place is the Barys car market.

The decision of the court has not entered into force yet.
