Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro may replace his confiscated plane with a Russian Il-96, suggested businessman and former owner of the largest file-sharing site Megaupload, Kim Dotcom, on social media X.

“This won’t hurt Maduro much. He can simply purchase a Russian presidential Il-96 plane, which is clearly a better option. The US has done him a favor,” Dotcom wrote.

As reported by CNN on Monday, US authorities seized President Maduro’s plane and transported it to Florida, believing that its purchase had bypassed sanctions.
Later, the US Department of the Treasury stated that the grounds for such actions were violations of American sanctions and export control legislation. Now, Washington intends to pursue the plane’s confiscation.
