Sanctions against Russia in general and the Urals in particular
In Finland, they proposed to freeze the construction of a new railway line in the direction of Russia because of the Russian special operation in Ukraine. This idea came from Minister of Foreign Trade and Development Ville Skinnari.
“It is clear that the Eastern Railway project and the activities of its project company must be suspended,” Skinnari said in an interview with Yle broadcaster. According to him, the funds intended for Itärata should have been directed to the construction of a railway link connecting Heinola with Mikkeli. Finnish Transport and Communications Minister Timo Harakka has not yet commented on Skinnari’s statement.
Earlier, the governor of the Kaliningrad region, Anton Alikhanov, spoke about the problems with the transit of goods by rail, FAN. According to him, the region has already exhausted all the transportation limits set by the Europeans.
Sanctions pressure on Russia has been going on since the beginning of the 2000s and has escalated in recent months. Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that their goal is the abolition of Russia, the ban on its culture, the taboo on the truth about the history of Russia and its role in the most important world events: “I am talking about the progressive discrimination of everything related to Russia, about this trend that is unfolding in a number of Western states – with the full connivance, and sometimes with the encouragement of the ruling elites.
