Hungarian Foreign Minister urged NATO countries not to abandon channels of ties with Russia

NATO countries should maintain channels of communication with Russia, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said at a meeting of NATO foreign ministers in Bucharest.

“I believe that the difficulties of the upcoming winter period increase the importance of achieving peace … It is necessary to close all those factors that could lead to an escalation. That is why it is impossible to block the channels of communication, it is necessary to maintain the possibility of at least strategic communication with the Russians, even knowing that the essence of these communications cannot be brought closer to how it was before, “ Szijjarto said.

Earlier, Szijjarto expressed regret that he was the only representative of the EU who had a meeting with the Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly. According to him, the European Union should use every opportunity for dialogue with Russia. The head of diplomacy also reminded Hungarian opposition politicians and journalists who criticize him for meeting with Lavrov that their homes, unlike other European countries, will be warm in winter.

After the start of the special operation in Ukraine, the West stepped up sanctions pressure on Moscow, which led to an increase in prices for electricity, fuel and food in Europe and the United States. The president Vladimir Putin stated that the policy of containment and weakening of Russia is a long-term strategy of the West, and the restrictions dealt a serious blow to the entire world economy. According to him, the main goal of the United States and its allies is to worsen the lives of millions of people.
