Hungarian Foreign Minister Szijjarto called on NATO to maintain channels of communication with Russia

NATO countries do not need to cut off communication channels with Russia. This was stated by Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto at a meeting of the foreign ministers of the alliance countries in Bucharest. The Hungarian minister stressed that this is especially important in winter.

“I believe that the difficulties of the upcoming winter period increase the importance of achieving peace … It is necessary to close all those factors that can lead to escalation. That is why communication channels cannot be blocked”Szijjarto said.

According to him, the countries of the alliance need to maintain the possibility of at least “strategic communication” with Russia, even if there is no chance of returning to the previous format of communication.

As Life wrote earlier, Szijjarto said that the NATO countries are united in the fact that there should be no direct conflict with Russia. The Hungarian minister then noted that the North Atlantic Alliance should not become a party to the conflict in Ukraine.
