President of Honduras declares state of emergency due to gang activity
Tegucigalpa, 25 November 2022, 03:15 — REGNUM National security emergency declared in Honduras by President Xiomaroy Castro against the backdrop of increased activity on the part of criminal groups, according to the website of the head of state.
At the same time, a plan to combat gangs is activated. Such decisions were made after numerous appeals from citizens about cases of extortion. The groups against which the authorities launched a new campaign are also involved in kidnapping and drug trafficking.
The introduced regime allows law enforcement agencies to use 20,000 police agents, introduce a new road control system and take measures against money laundering.
