Every day it gets warmer outside, and the activity of snakes increases. This year, due to frost, their mating season, which usually begins in early April, has shifted by almost a month. Now scaly ones, which usually shun humans, become irritable, excitable, aggressive and may attack first. What to do at such a meeting, learned “Parliamentary newspaper”.

Who is who

Employees of the regional Ministry of Ecology told Parliamentary Newspaper that the number of snakes in the region has been steadily low for several decades. Only three species live in Moscow and the Moscow region: the common viper – only it is poisonous, the other two – the common copperhead and the common one. All are listed in the Red Book of the Moscow Region.

“There is a lot of talk about the danger of snakes and, as a rule, they greatly exaggerate it. If you behave prudently, avoid contact with a reptile, it will not harm you, – the Minister of Ecology and Nature Management of the Moscow Region told Parliamentary Newspaper Tikhon Firsov. – Snakes feed on pests – rats, mice and other animals that spread infections and cause damage to the economy. They, like other species, have their own ecological niche, their own purpose, so they should be left alone.”

Reptiles are not only beneficial, they are also a necessary link in the food chain. They are eaten by rare birds such as the Short-toed Eagle, Greater Spotted Eagle, White and Black Storks.

Common copperhead has always been found singly. The last time she was seen was in 1982-1983 by residents of Volokolamsk, Lotoshin, Noginsk, Serpukhov and Shchelkovo, Kolomna, Ozer, Podolsk.

The common viper comes across in Yegorievsk, Zaraysk, Klin, Lukhovitsy, Orekhovo-Zuev, Pavlovsky Posad, Silver Ponds, Shatura, Lotoshino, Noginsk, Sergiev Posad, Serpukhov, Mozhaisk and Taldom. In the Red Book of the Moscow Region until 2008, it was listed as a vulnerable species. Now the population has stabilized.

Ordinary already a few decades ago was a common species for the Moscow region. But then they became noticeably smaller, and today the number is recovering. The snakes inhabit the central, eastern and southern parts of the region. In the north, they were found in Taldom, Sergiev Posad, Lotoshino, Klin. They also live in Podolsk, Yegorievsk, Zaraisk, Kashira, Kolomna, Krasnogorsk, Lukhovitsy, Lakes, Orekhovo-Zuev, Pavlovsky Posad, Silver Ponds, Chekhov, Stupino, Shatura, Naro-Fominsk, Serpukhov, Ramenskoye, Vidny.

Actions that can lead to the death, reduction in the number or violation of the habitat of animals and plants threaten with an administrative fine. Citizens will have to pay from one to three thousand rubles, officials – from 20 to 30 thousand, legal entities – from 50 to 100 thousand.

How to protect yourself

The common viper never strikes first. The Ministry of Natural Resources told Parlamentskaya Gazeta that in all cases the attack was provoked by a person due to insufficient knowledge of safety rules.

For a hike in the forest, you need to choose practical shoes – rubber boots are better, try to move as loudly as possible: the snake will crawl away when it hears steps. But she will defend herself if she thinks she is in danger. So do not try to take a closer look at her, catch or kill her.

country guest

In the country, it is necessary to maintain order – regularly mow the grass, do not allow the storage of garbage, boards or firewood. It is almost impossible to completely scare away snakes: they do not know the concept of fear, and their behavior is built on unconditioned reflexes. The owners of the plots are trying to settle hedgehogs on them, which feed on reptiles, especially young ones.

If an uninvited guest crawled into the house or barn, you do not need to get it yourself. Remove people and animals from the premises, lock it up and call rescuers. Employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations will catch the scaly one and take it away.

Bite with poison

The Ministry of Health near Moscow explained that the bite of a viper is most dangerous for children. It is not fatal, but the consequences can be serious due to an allergic reaction and the characteristics of the body.

Everyone reacts differently, but usually after 15-20 minutes, dizziness, lethargy, headaches, nausea, shortness of breath and rapid pulse appear. The victim should be laid horizontally and given plenty of fluids, strong tea.

In no case should you suck out the poison – there is a high probability of penetration through the oral mucosa. You can try to squeeze it out with blood, treat the bite site with an antiseptic, hydrogen peroxide, a weak solution of potassium permanganate or iodine. It is not necessary to tighten the limb with a tourniquet – this will enhance the effect of the poisonous substance. The correct way is to apply something cold. After giving first aid, it is important to immediately consult a doctor.
